Tuesday 22nd October 2019
A few of our members along with some of the coaches and players from the Alum Rock Football Academy took part in the Copa Del CL football tournament held at St George’s Park in Burton.
The event is an annual tournament in support of the life saving charity Cure Leukaemia.
It was an amazing experience for us to meet and play alongside some football legends such as Matt Le Tissier, Francis Benali and Kevin Phillip’s just to name a few! It was also another opportunity to play for our Team Manager and Cure Leukaemia Champion Lizzie Dean.
“In 2016, after being given 2 months to live, a Cure Leukaemia funded clinical trial saved my life. In 2018, towards the end of my treatment on the trial, the charity announced they were putting on a football tournament to help fund more nurses and more trials for more patients, and I knew I wanted to be involved – but I had no players! I thought it would be great to enter a team of Blues fans. The guys from Blues 4 All were already supporters of CL and they stepped up, put together a team and committed to fundraising. On the day, we had such a great time, and I was delighted that they wanted to return in 2019. I’m so grateful to the team for their support with fundraising, but also for their kindness and friendship in helping a fellow bluenose” said Lizzie.
Our team performed exceptionally well on the day by topping our group and eventually reaching the semi finals only to lose 4-3 with just a few agonising seconds away from penalties!
We wanted to say a huge thank you to KSB Recruitment for their generous sponsorship and fundraising support.
We have already secured our place in next seasons tournament which will be on 16th October 2020. We will be looking for a new kit sponsor so please get in touch if you would like to support the charity.
